2021 Election Compass: Positions of Bundestag Parties on Key Cannabis Industry Issues
The Left, Greens, and FDP Promise the Most Commitment – SPD and CDU Cautious About Reform
Berlin, 2021-09-01: Ahead of the federal election, the German Cannabis Business Association (BvCW) submitted an election questionnaire — known in Germany as Wahlprüfsteine — to all parties represented in the Bundestag. The aim was to clarify the parties’ fundamental political positions on issues related to the cannabis industry.
The BvCW seeks to offer the interested public a tool to assess the economic policy approaches of the main political parties regarding the already legal sectors of the cannabis industry (such as medical cannabis, industrial hemp, food, CBD, etc.).
BvCW Managing Director Jürgen Neumeyer emphasized:
“All relevant parties recognize the need for reform in the cannabis economy, but our comparison clearly highlights the differences between them. Now it’s up to the voters: Go to the polls for progress!”
BvCW President Dr. Stefan Meyer added:
“As a cannabis industry, we will hold the parties accountable for their reform promises after the election, and we will continue to advocate for fair and competitive market conditions for our sector.”
In a BvCW panel discussion held in the run-up to the election, some party representatives voiced policy positions that were significantly more progressive than those outlined in their official party platforms.
The full responses from the Bundestag parties, along with selected excerpts from their election manifestos, can be found in Volume 14 of the BvCW ELEMENTE series (Cannabis Industry Publications): Click here to access
